EIP’s 2025 Smallholder Farmer Needs Report offers a deep understanding of smallholder farmers’ challenges and actionable solutions. Following our first two reports in 2023 and 2024, the current publication expands the scope, analyzing responses from 4,280 farmers across 30 districts in 4 states. We highlight farmers challenges and potential solutions, devoting a special section to labor and mechanization. Labor shortage is a persistent and growing challenge for smallholder farming as urban employment opportunities compete with agriculture for workers.
